Baby Fold's Dani Simpson earns perinatal mental health certification

Apr. 25—NORMAL — Dani Simpson, early childhood mental health consultant for The Baby Fold's Healthy Start program, has achieved certification as a perinatal mental health provider.
Perinatal mood disorders such as postpartum depression create significant challenges for families, The Baby Fold said in a news release. One in five new mothers in Illinois experience postpartum depression, and low-income families are at higher risk, the news release continued.
Simpson works alongside Healthy Start's home visiting doulas and family support specialists. She provides prenatal education, identifies strategies for improved health and well-being, screens for perinatal mood disorders, and offers individualized and group support as needed, according to the news release.
